Physicians
John Dixon MBBS PhD, Dip RACOG, FRACGP
is Senior Research fellow at Monash University and a director of the Centre for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) within the faculty of Medicine at Monash Unversity where he leads a research team looking at the health effects of obesity. He has been involved with treatment and management of obese patients since 1997 following 14 years in rural general practice at Phillip Island. John completed a PhD in 2002 studying the effects of weight loss on the many related medcial conditions in the severly obese.
He is a member of the council the Australian Society for the Study of Obestiy (ASSO) and chairs its clinical and research committee. John leads courses in Australia and internationally on care of patients following LapBand surgery. He has published over 40 research papers on obesity realted topics in major international journals and is regularly invited to speak at conferences both in Australia and overseas.
Linda Schachter MBBS, FRACP
is a respirratory and sleep medicine specialist. Linda joined the Centre for Bariatric Surgery 5 years ago, and also works at the Austin Repatriation Medical Centre.
Linda has a long term research interest in the effects of obesity on lung function, asthma and sleep apnoea and the effects of weight loss on these conditions.She is a member of the Thoracic society of Australia and New Zealand, Australasian Sleep Association, and Obesity Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Anna Korin MBBS
is in the process of completing Specialisation in Emergency Medicine.
Anna joined The Centre for Bariatric Surgery five and a half years ago and divides her time between The Centre and The Alfred Hospital Emergency Department. Anna plans to continue in both her chosen fields. This year will include a greater involvement with research undertaken by the Centre
Peter Baquie MBBS, FACSP
completed General Practice training in Victoria an worked as a general practitioner in South Gippsland for 12 years.
After returning to Melbourne in 1991 he has undertaken sports medicine work at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre with team doctor duties at Carlton AFL (for 3 years), team doctor for the Australian Men's Hockey Team (since 1997), and Melbourne Storm National Rugby League Team (since the beginning of 2004).
Dr Baquie has been with the Centre for Bariatic Surgery for the last five years. his particular interest includes musculo skeletal injuries associated with Obesity and related management as a means to assist weight loss. He is currently working on a research project studying the effects of weight loss knee pain in obese women.
Audrey Kotzander MBBS FRACGP DRANZCOG
is a General Practitioner with a special interest in obesity surgery, assisiting with surgical procedures, follow up advice and adjustments.
Audrey is a Fellow of the College of General Practitioners and has a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
